Connecting a Nokia device to the Wireless Network

It is possible to connect most Nokia devices to the Imperial-WPA network.  If you have a College-owned Nokia device you may visit the Service Desk for help.

If you own a Nokia device yourself or would like to have a go yourself, you can follow these non-ICT instructions here:  Connecting a Nokia device to the wireless network

You can use these settings with Eduroam too – probably a better option as you are not tied to IC You need to set your username to username@ic.ac.uk

Hi there. You’re correct. There was a change just over a week ago which caused problems for some people. The server certificate that is used on the wireless network expired and needed to be replaced.

In preparing for this, we discovered that Verisign had changed the Certificate Authority that they sign certificates they issue with. The majority of users would have been prompted to accept the new certificate when they next connected and, in most cases, this would have been pretty straightforward. In particular, it appears to have worked well for XP, Windows 7, OSX (10.5) and the iPhone; and especially if the client was set up as per our instructions: http://bit.ly/bAV350.

Nokia phones have not proven to be so easily updated. We’ve found that most Nokia devices have needed their Certificate Authority changing to the second “Class 3….” entry in the list. In some cases, if you delete the old certificate, you’ll be automatically prompted to accept the new one. In other cases, you’ll need to go back into the phone settings and manually select it. Note that we’ve not published official instructions for the Nokias as they tend to be complex and awkward to set up and there is no consistency between devices. This is why we chose to use the link to a blog post external to ICT, but unfortunately because of the recent change this post has become out of date.

II did have my Nokia E71 working OK on the network using the instructions from the blog but it seems to have stopped a week or so ago.
Did something change? Is it a different certificate now or something?
