Apple’s Java for OS X 2012-006 update uninstalled the Apple-provide Java applet plug-in from all Mac web browsers. Mac OS X users running Java-based applications are now advised by Apple to download the latest Mac OS change, which will install the latest version of Java SE 6 (1.6.0_43).

Recent tests with the latest Java 7 applet plug-in from Oracle appear to work with ICIS forms. HOWEVER, Oracle do not yet support Java 7 with ICIS and we therefore recommend Mac users to rely on the Mac OS update provided via the Apple App Store

You can find information on this at http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1572

Should you have any issue, please contact the ICT service desk and a Mac support specialist will be able to help you

You may experience issues logging into ICIS after the recent upgrade.

If you do get an error such as “The webpage cannot be found – HTTP 404″, this could be related to your browser caching an old link. To resolve this, please clear your browser cache (instructions here). Please close your browser and restart a new browser session. If you still can’t log in, please go via the ICIS Web Pages and click on the Login to ICIS Icon (example attached)

If the core form (using the Java Plugin) hangs when loading, this could be caused by some issue with your local Java Cache. To resolve this, please delete your local java files (instructions here)

If you get a message such as the one in this caption, please look to uninstall the Java Plugin JRE 1.7. As JRE 1.7 is not installed on College Machine’s standard build, you should be able to remove it with your current permissions. If not, please raise this with the Service desk to have it assigned to your desktop support team

If after attempting these, you still experience problems, please raise this with the ICT Service Desk

<ins></ins>

Q. How can I print documents from my laptop, tablet or phone?

A. Use the Imperial Mobile Printing portal to upload your document(s) to the print queue and then print them as normal when you are located at one of the many ICTprintservice devices.

N.B. Please note that this service uses the <ins>Colour Print Driver</ins> - if you want mono documents then please make sure that you retrieve your documents using a “mono-only” device.

Q. How can I access the Imperial Mobile Printing portal?

A. Go to https://ictprintservice.imperial.ac.uk/ and when asked to login, enter your Imperial username and password.

Q. What can I print?

A. You can use the portal to print the following document types … Microsoft Office, OpenOffice, PDF, JPG, GIF, PNG, TIF.

N.B. OneNote is NOT supported and to print OneNote documents you should save as PDF first. If you find other document types that are not supported then try saving as PDF first and then printing.

Use the Browse button to navigate to your document. N.B. This functionality is only supported in full desktop operating systems (Windows, Linux and Mac OS) and some mobile operating systems (Android). Other mobile operating systems including iOS (iPhone and iPad) and Windows Phone do not support file upload for print in this method – please use the send by email method further down this FAQ to submit print jobs from iOS and Windows Phone devices.

Click Next

The file is added to your list of jobs to print. Please note that initially the status will say “Awaiting processing”, then “Processing” then “Printed”. You won’t be able to retrieve the job until it has a status of “Printed”.

Once you are ready to collect your print outs go to an ICTprintservice printer and swipe your ID card to login (or alternatively manually enter your login details). Select the document(s) to print and then wait for them to print (as long as you have sufficient funds to cover the cost of printing).

Q. What about Web pages?

A. You can use the Web Print option to provide a web address for printing …

N.B. Web pages are opened locally on the “ICTprintservice server” so boarding cards, tickets or other items that require specific login details may not print as expected.

Enter the Web address

Click Next

Follows steps c. and d. from the Uploaded Document printing instructions above.

Q. My document type isn’t listed and it’s not a webpage so how do I print it?

A. Use the Driver Print option to set up a print driver on your local machine (laptop / desktop NOT iPad / Android Tablet / Phone) and then use that to print your work.

Depending on the Operating System that you are using you will then be presented with options about how to proceed depending on how much control you want over the print job and the formatting of the resulting print outs.

Once the driver has been installed you can print from any application by choosing File, Print (or other appropriate print command) then choose the “ICTprintservice_colour on https://ictprintservice.imperial.ac.uk” to print your work.

Follow steps c. and d. above to collect your work.

Q. I have an email (and attachments) that I want to print?

A. Use the email enabled printing option to print this. Simply forward your email to ictprint@imperial.ac.uk and it will be printed along with any attachments (subject to the limitations above regarding document types).

When printing from email and including attachments you may find that a blank page is printed between the mail message and the attachment. You may also find that one or more ATTxxxxx.htm files are printed (the xxxxx is a numerical string sequentially incremented based on the total number of files attached). You can choose not to print the .htm files when you retrieve your print job list at the printer and thus save the cost of a printed page for each one.

You can send an email from any mail address to this service however the first time that you send from an email address you will be asked to register the address to your account. Follow the instructions in the email that you receive back and log in with your username and password and then you can send any other time without further registration being required.

Q. Can I force the use of a mono printer driver to reduce the cost of printing from email?

A. Yes – you can either enter the following text as the subject line … p:mono (Note that this subject line has no spaces and should contain no other information), or you can send to the following email address … ictprintmono@imperial.ac.uk

Q. Can I print files from my H: drive direct from my iPad or Android Tablet?

A. Yes – using the mobilEcho service to access your home directory (H: drive) you can send files direct to the printer using the Email file option and sending it to the ictprint@imperial.ac.uk email address. (Note that if you want to force mono printing you can use the subject line “p:mono” or send to ictprintmono@imperial.ac.uk).

N.B. Imperial College email addresses are automatically registered to use the service.

If you have any issues or problems then please contact the ICT Service Desk on 49000 or log a support request at https://www.imperial.ac.uk/ict/servicedesk/selfservice/SelfService/SSDefault.aspx and use the “Make a Request” link.

Background

There is a bug in iProcurement which means you will no longer be able to enter a supplier’s name directly into the ‘Supplier’s Name’ field in the ‘Non-Catalog Request’ screen and then either tab or click on the magnifying glass. If you do so the following error message will then pop up:

In case you accidentally come across this pop-up error message, click on ‘X’ button in the top-right hand corner in the popup window, and follow the work around provided below.

Workaround

When you come to the ‘Supplier’s Name’ field when entering a ‘Non-Catalog Request’ requisition:

Click on the magnifying glass:

Enter the supplier name in the search box; use “%” if you need a wildcard:

Click ‘Go’:

Select the site that you want from the pick list by clicking on the radio button in the ‘Select’ column:

Click ‘Select’:

The system will then populate the ‘Supplier Name’ and ‘Site’:

Please Note: If this error occurs anywhere within ICIS, closing the error window, then clicking on the magnifying glass or torch will resolve the error.

Background

One of the new features of Oracle Financials R12 in iProcurement is predictive searching for the ‘Non Catalogue Request’ screen when you type in fields which have a list of values; this will be familiar if you use the Google search engine:

Unfortunately because our database is so large, there are performance issues around this. A ‘Loading…’ box may appear if you are typing directly into the fields with list of values:

Workaround

Unfortunately there is no work around for this; if you wait a few seconds, or click anywhere else on the page, the box will disappear.
