The Academic Technology Approval Scheme was launched on 1st November 2007. Under this scheme, all non-EEA students who need a student visa to come to the UK to do a degree in certain subject areas, will be required to apply for ATAS clearance before applying for Student Entry Clearance (visa).
Any students already in the UK who need to extend their student visa to commence or continue on one of the relevant courses, will also need to get ATAS clearance before making a student visa extension application

Uploading a proposal summary for the first time: You may have received an email asking you to enter details of your research proposal into your Student e-Service record. If you have been asked to do this then please ensure that you do so, regardless of what information you may have already supplied to us. Please do not send us your summary by email.
To enter this information, please login to your Student e-Service account. Having logged in please click the ‘Course Information’ tab, followed by the ‘Research’ link in the top left hand hand corner. You can then paste or type your summary into the text box, remembering that you have a maximum of 2000 characters (note – not 2000 words). Once you have entered your summary please check it carefully before you click ‘Submit’, because once you do that you will be unable to amend it yourself.
Editing your summary: If you have submitted a summary then you are unfortunately not able to amend it yourself. If you do need to make a change please email the Records team with details of this.
