Writing-Up status and fee payment: PhD students

August 25, 2010
by James Tilley

MPhil/PhD and MD(Res) students are permitted to write up their thesis in College for six months immediately following the end of their registration and all experimental work. This allows you to have access to all College facilities for a registration fee of £100, payable either by you, your department/division or sponsor. An examination entry form must be submitted at the start of the writing up period. The Writing Up period cannot be extended beyond six months, but students may continue to write up away from College for the life of the Examination Entry.

If you enter the writing up status, an invoice for the £100 fee will be sent directly to you. If you are not covering the cost yourself, you should pass the invoice on to the relevant department or sponsor.

Overseas students should note that they may need to extend their visa as a result of entering writing-up status, and should discuss this with the International Office if necessary.
