Game on for Universities Week
30 April 2012

Imperial will be celebrating its involvement in the Olympics during this year’s Universities Week, beginning today.
The week is organised by Universities UK (UUK), a lobbying group for universities and aims to highlight the broader contributions higher education institutions make to society. This year the theme reflects the forthcoming Games, an event Imperial is supporting in a number of ways.
As well as having students and alumni in line to take part in the London 2012 Olympics, the College will also be playing host to Japanese and Swiss athletes. Meanwhile members of the Imperial community are engaged in research supporting athletes, from students developing projects to give athletes with disabilities more sporting opportunities to researchers working with the GB rowing team to help optimise their performance.
During the week UUK will be releasing reports detailing some of the ways universities are contributing to London 2012. There will also be an awards evening on Thursday, organised by Podium, the Further and Higher Education Unit for the 2012 Games. The awards will be given in recognition of stand-out projects supporting the Games from universities and Colleges.
Universities Week will culminate with the BUCS VISA Outdoor Athletics Championships at the Olympic Stadium from Friday, which Imperial athletes will be competing in.
Members of Imperial taking part in Olympics-related activities this week can tweet using #UniWeek and #ImpCol.
