Alumni Reunion
29 May 2012

The 2012 Alumni Reunion took place on Saturday 12 May, as part of the inaugural Imperial Festival. Nearly 1,000 alumni registered their attendance and, with the sun shining, enjoyed catching up with old friends, rediscovering the campus and trying out some of the hands-on scientific demonstrations on offer in the Festival’s research zone.
Alumni had their own special programme of events: one of the most popular was the Alumni Panel Session, comprising Karl Harder, Sami Lababidi and Charles Nasser, chaired by Sabrina Kiefer, discussing the role of digital technologies in driving entrepreneurship. The panel talked about their own experiences of starting a business, and answered questions ranging from how to raise investment to how to plan an exit strategy.
Later on in the evening, 100 alumni and guests gathered in the College’s main entrance for an exclusive drinks reception with the Rector. Commenting on the day, the Rector said it had been “a bigger success than we could ever have imagined,” adding how much he had enjoyed meeting and chatting to alumni from across the decades – including the Reunion’s oldest attendee, John Dyson (Chemistry 1937).

I regret not being able to make the reunion and the Festival – both look splendid and stimulating. I do hope there will be a repeat next year and I will make it a priority!

I too regret not being able to attend these reunions on account of prohibitive travelling costs from Zambia to England. However, my heart is always with Imperial and God willing I will show up there one day!

The 1812 overture in the Great Hall was a magnificent experience. Such talent shown by the Imperial College Symphony Orchestra and brilliant audience participation as we fired off the cannons. Our very own Imperial Festival proms and so very suitable for the occasion. I am looking forward to the 2013 Imperial Festival.
