28 June 2012

voxpopReporter spoke to a number of prospective students and their parents enjoying a very sunny Science and Engineering Open Day on 28 June 2012, and asked them:

What are you looking for in a university and hoping to find today?

  • “I’m after a good atmosphere, great courses, research and it’s also important for me to see how far the university is from my house to see if it is feasible.”
    Chahesh Perindanathan
  •

  • “I’m hoping to do physics and want to find a university with good lecturers, good lab equipment and nice accommodation.”
    Rose Teague
  •

  • “Coming somewhere where people are welcoming and there is a happy atmosphere is so important. I want to see students out and about looking like they are enjoying being at university – that’s the best proof!”
    Maria Afonso
  •

  • “I want to be able to go to talks and hear a lecturer being incredibly enthusiastic about their subject and making me want to learn all about it.”
    James Hodgson
  •

  • “It’s really cool to get the opportunity to even just sit in a lecture theatre and see what it would feel like to be in a university environment- even if they aren’t speaking about science. We know Imperial’s reputation so the type of things I’m looking for today aren’t really academic – I’m looking forward to seeing the sports facilities and was impressed to hear about all the clubs.”
    Yasine El-Ashmawi
  •

  • “I want to hear clear information about the degree, hear about employment prospects and get an idea of the quality of the accommodation. Essentially I want to get a feel for the university as a whole. First impressions really count!”
    Stephen Litherland (parent)
  •

  • “I live in the countryside in Gloucestershire so I just wanted to come along and see how I’d feel being in a city campus – but it is really nice and I can completely envisage myself coming to Imperial!”
    Katherine Davis
