Go dotty for Demelza – fundraising campaign

From Friday 18 May to Friday 25 May Commercial Services are proud to be supporting National Children’s Hospice week and raising money for their nominated local charity Demelza. The fundraising will begin on Friday 18 May, and to support the Go Dotty Campaign and all staff are encouraged to show their support by purchasing a wrist band from any catering outlet and wearing something dotty for the day.

During the week wristbands and mugs will be sold at the tills in Commercial Service outlets, and collection boxes will also be on the tills.

A range of dotty cakes, freshly baked by Imperial’s chefs, will be on sale for only £1 each with all money taken going towards this very worthwhile cause.

Digital Shoreditch festival

Digital Shoreditch festival is a fantastic opportunity for students, lecturers and faculty to engage with the outstanding creative, technical and entrepreneurial talent of East London and Tech City. The festival runs from May 21st to June 1st 2012, includes talks, showcases, competitions, workshops, open studios and networking dinners that will engage, inspire and celebrate the cream of the digital crop.

Of particular interest to Imperial students and faculty will be the Inspire Day on the 21st of May and the Career Day on the 23rd of May.

At the end of each day there is a fantastic opportunity to join a Digital Shoreditch Networking Dinner held at Google Campus. Each dinner reflects the theme of  each day and it’s the perfect place to meet new contacts!

Donate to win a gourmet meal

A staff member will be hiking to Machu Pichu in May next year in an effort to raise £10,000 for Macmillan Cancer Support, and is encouraging staff to donate to the cause.

All donations recieved in May will be eligible to win a gourmet three course meal, which will be cooked in the winners home.

Two students will be rowing from Oxford to London in September, and are raising money for Macmillan Cancer Support.

Support the EYEC by collecting supermarket vouchers

Staff are encouraged to collect vouchers from Tesco and Sainsbury supermarkets for the Early Years Education Centre, which they will be able to spend  on educational equipment. In order to help, please;

  • Collect vouchers from either Tesco’s or  Sainsbury’s by asking for “school club vouchers” at the till
  • Drop the vouchers in the boxes at 8 Princes Gardens, or
  • Send the vouchers in internal mail to;

Invitation to attend Supersonix conference

An Exhibition Road Cultural Group 2012 project in partnership with SLSA Eu 20-23 June 2012

The Supersonix conference is an international exploration of the art and science of sound – in the Exhibition Road cultural quarter of London. The conference, 20-23 June 2012, is a partnership between the Society for Literature, Science and the Arts Europe (SLSA EU) and the Exhibition Road Cultural Group. It will bring together artists, scientists and academics for lectures and workshops, experiments and performances. Supersonix will explore the subject of sound through a multidisciplinary approach.

The 17th annual Fuller’s London Pride 10k Family Walk and Fun Run will take place on Sunday 1st July in support of Cancer Research UK with all funds from this event going directly to Hammersmith Hospital, part of the Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust. Organisers are hoping to encourage more people than ever to participate to raise funds through sponsorship and to walk for someone they know who has suffered from cancer.

Yoga classes – first session free for new recruits

Yoga classes run every Tuesday between 12.30-1.30pm in Room 122 of the Sir Alexander Fleming Building with Ailon Freedman, the founder of the ’Lotus Exchange’.

The new session shall run from:

  • Tuesday 1st May 2012 – Tuesday 26th June 2012 (missing out Tuesday 5th June when College is closed)

The classes cost £7 each but you have to sign up for the complete session, which is £56.

New members are always required and a free yoga class is being offered to allow people the chance to try it out. Spaces are limited so please contact Dr Scott P Fraser by email to book a place.

Union Open Day

Come and experience a taste of the wide-range of activities and services offered by the Students’ Union for Imperial College London.

Imperial College Union is a charity and business led by students and run by a team of full-time staff. Our aim is to provide representation and welfare advice for students along with somewhere to relax, socialise, to play sport or learn a new skill. Because of the huge variety in what we offer, we want a chance to show off a bit! Our Open Day is your chance to see our facilities, some of the activities we offer to our students and also get an idea of the scale of our day-to-day output.

Everyone is welcome to attend! We will be here running shows and will be around to meet you from 11:00 until 15:00, so pop by whenever you want.
