December 2010 Monthly Archives:

As you might have guessed from my strapline…I can be  a bit of a foodie. So from time to time I’ll put up some tried and tested recipes, let me know what you think! In true student style they are very cheap, very simple and very quick to make!

So, first up… SMUSH – an amazing invention created by some girls on my corridor…

1- Get half a packet or so of digestive biscuits

2 -  Break the biscuits up a bit – whack it on a table, punch it, hammer it with a saucepan, whatever.

3- Melt a bar of chocolate – whichever flavour you like.

(I’ve been told you can’t melt chocolate directly in  a saucepan or microwave because its too delicate. I’ve always just ignored this and dropped it in an empty saucepan over a low heat – works for me!)

4- Mix chocolate and bashed up biscuits.

5- Eat quickly! You can be posh and put it in little cupcake cases, or be like the people in my kitchen…and eat it straight out of the saucepan it was made in!

This recipe can also be padded out and poshed up a bit- variations we have tried include cornflakes, raisins, other biscuits, marshmallows…

Trust me, make this for people and they will love you! And it needn’t break the bank, it can be made from Sainsburys basics – which come to less than £1 in total and its enough for at least 4 people!

Well, with less than 2 weeks to go before the end of the first term (already! I can’t believe its gone this quickly!) my roomate and me decided to get our room decorated for Christmas.

With typical student resourcefulness and without spending even a single penny, we’re pretty pleased with the finished results…see what you think!

Now all I’ve got left to do in Reading Week (apart from tutorials and finishing two practical files) is finish the Christmas shopping! And then somehow work out how to carry it all home on a train….

That title pretty much sums up my life at the moment. I’ve been enjoying all the free sports facilities here a little too much recently…and managed to get tendinitis in my Achilles tendon.

It isn’t actually that bad, especially if I’ve been sitting down for a few hours – so each morning I’m feeling pretty much better. As a result I managed to put off going to the healthcentre for a few days. Then by the evening it would swell back up again and I’d be limping around… so I thought maybe it was perhaps time to go and see a nurse.

Went in to the dropin session with the nurses on Friday, with the result I’ve been banned from doing all exercise for the next week at least! We’re not sure what triggered it, but possibly just me bouncing around and racing up stairs could have been the cause ( I am slightly famous back home for bouncing down my stairs at home with such energy that I managed to fall through them – into the understairs cupboard!)

Apart from that though, I had an awesome weekend. My sister came up for the day, to see where I lived. We also got some Christmas shopping done, and had fun looking at the ridiculous pet things for sale in Harrods. That’s one of the things with living in London, there’s so much stuff that you just won’t be able to afford! My boyfriend also came up to see me ( and carry my shopping back from Sainsburys for me), so all in all it was a good weekend! Couldn’t go ice skating in the end, but still made it over to Winter Wonderland in Hyde Park for some mulled wine :)

Pictures to follow!
