I know this time last year I was very excited and a little bit nervous about the prospect of moving away from home and into halls so I thought I’d make the next few blog posts contain some stuff I would have found useful!
1 – Most of the halls don’t have lifts…so just remember that when you’re packing, you could well have to lug those boxes up 4 flights of stairs!
2- Kitchen stuff WILL go walkies at uni. It’s just one of those things that happens…so buy cheap and cheerful, so that when it does disappear, it’s not the end of the world.
3-Rooms do come furnished! So don’t try and go too crazy and bring your own chair, and mattress, and laundry basket – you don’t need to!
4- Remember, you are going to be living in central London, in close proximity to lots of shops. So you can always leave odds and ends to pick up if you need when you get here, rather than bringing it all with you!
NB – This doesn’t apply to pillows! Bring pillows with you!! Some of my friends planned to buy them in the nearest supermarket when they got here…as did half the new students moving to London it seems -all the shops locally were sold out for several weeks!
5- The roads outside halls will be chaos on movein day, maybe consider getting a train/bus then taxi, to avoid the hassle of parking.
6- Don’t come with too much fresh food at first, in my first week I only had to feed myself a handful of times, college is really good at giving free food in your first week.
7- Do remember to bring stationery. I didn’t!
Any other questions, just ask me, or your hall seniors on the hall facebook groups!

Why the stationery?
