Thoughts provoked by exams
This week I had my first two exams in IC: Accounting and Statistics. Actually, they were not as difficult as we had thought.
One of the score standards in Statistics caught my attention.
There are total twenty multiple choices, for each is worth 5 marks and the full score is 100. However, the interesting part is that if you choose a wrong answer, one mark will be deducted from your final score for each, which is not the case in China.
I believe that is intended to test if students genuinely master the knowledge and professors prefer them to be honest instead of guessing by ‘tossing a coin’.
On the contrary, students will not be ‘punished’ for guessing in the exams in my country China, which is due to different values people hold in two countries.
Nevertheless, this method in my opinion will have two different impacts on students in our program. For those who may be worried that they will fail the exam, they choose to be avoiding risk to ensure their safe status; for others whose aims are to acquire a full score, they are risk takers instead and make bold guesses to achieve a full score.
These thoughts kept popping out of my mind when I first saw the paper and I kept comparing differences existing in UK and China, which is quite delightful.
After these two exams, I relaxed for a while before I suddenly realized there is so much homework due next week.
Thoughts due to buses
I recently notice a phenomenon which reflects the good quality of citizens in London.
Whenever his/her nearby passenger get off the bus, he/she on the side of corridor will move inside. I believe it is for the sake of other passengers’ convenience, which means other passengers can find their seats much easier.
Though this is a tiny detail of my daily bus life, I can see the good will of these people and their courtesy.
However, I also heard a big quarrel one day on the bus between a passenger and the drive, which surprises me~
Birthday party
Today, we celebrate the birthdays of our two classmates in a Chinese restaurant in Liverpool Street. Everything was fine before one of my classmates lost her purse in the tube. I never thought there would be thieves in London or I just want to believe in the good side of people, but it disappoints me tonight.
We had really delicious food and spent the first nice birthday together. It is great to have friends around you when it is time for not being alone~ And i will upload my photos when I get them.
After the party, I went to another small party with my roommate. We played games and drank beers (but I didn’t) together. I made some new friends tonight.
I got back very late, but still made my mind to finish this blog~
Hope I can get a sound sleep tonight, for I have a group discussion tomorrow afternoon~
