Imperial Festival on your web pages

A note to all College web editors:

With just a couple of weeks to go before the first Imperial Festival you might like to let your web audience know what is going on by putting a web advert for the Festival on your webpages.

The adverts sits in the righthand navigation column on your page. There is an example of the advert on the visit imperial page.

Writing for the web – additional course date

Due to demand, an additional date has been announced for the Writing for the web workshop.

The additional session will take place at 9.30 – 13.00 on 17 July 2012.

You can book your place via the Organisation and Staff Development website

The workshop is designed for all staff who are not professional writers but do have responsibility for College web pages. You will learn why writing for the web is different from other writing styles and how to apply good web writing to your own pages.

Key areas

• Understand the specific needs of web readers
• Understand how to produce readable web pages
• Learn very practical hints and tips for improving your web writing

If you are looking for other ways to improve your web skills you might like to attend one of the Web Skills surgeries. Take a look at the schedule and register online for a place.

 

 

 
 

Web Forum – 14 March 2012

At the March forum we took a look at some new functionality which is planned for release this Spring.

Dynamic Content Aggregator (DCA) – Dan O’Donnell, Web Designer/-Developer, Communications & Development Division.

This is a new tool which will enable you to insert various RSS based feeds such as Twitter, Flickr and College news into your College web pages. The DCA will be integrated into the College and Medicine Content Management Systems.

 

 

Podcast generator – Karsten Seipp, Senior Digital Designer/-Developer, Communications & Development Division.

This is a new tool which will help you create enhanced podcasts using an audio and image files – particularly useful for lectures. The tool will be integrated into the College iMedia player. Once you have created your enhanced podcast you will be able to embed into your College web pages and upload to iTunes U in the usual way.
