- Check your spelling – make sure your search terms are spelled correctly
- You can search for a complete phrase by putting double quotes around it e.g. “research assessment exercise”
- To narrow down a search, use more words – Imperial’s Google search ranks pages according to how near each other your search terms appear
- Imperial’s search is not case sensitive

Thanks for the clarification Stephen – is there a list of specific search prefixes that are compatible with imperial? You mention Site: and ‘research’, but is there a reference available of the others? Thanks for your time.
you can also search for results within a particular site for example searching the phrase “research” would bring results from all Imperial sites but if you define the “site:” filter after your search term it will only search the pre defined site for research items (see below)
research site:http://www3.imperial.ac.uk/chemistry
this query will only search the chemistry site for the term research.
