About Me

Human beings are tediously complex to describe primarily because there is no set of equations that can completely model a human in excruciating detail. Yet, here I am attempting to do the improbable: describing myself with the power of words.

Prolegomenon

I’m known by the name Anas (an Arabic name that means love and affection). It so happens that my full name is Syed Anas Imtiaz, where my real name forms the middle name and so I end up being mentioned/written as Imtiaz, Syed A. I can be seen in the picture on the top right corner of this page which surprisingly looks like my non-existent fatter twin. The picture below, however, is my true image, demure and reticent.

That's me, not my twin!

That's me, not my twin!

I’m a student in the Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering, pursuing MSc in Analogue and Digital Integrated Circuit Design. Why I chose this course is not on today’s menu so I will skip that part on this page. Suffice to say, if not IC design then what?

A Peek Into Yesterday

Prior to joining Imperial, I had been living in Pakistan, which also happens to be the country of my origin. I completed my undergraduate degree in Electronic Engineering from National University of Sciences and Technology (abbrev. NUST) in Pakistan. Before moving to Pakistan I completed my A-levels from Abu Dhabi, UAE and even before that I did my O-levels in Saudi Arabia (which is also the country of my birth). So in case you haven’t noticed all my academic qualifications have been achieved in different countries. I know that you, dear reader, have no interest in my early life therefore I will not elaborate more.

Home Sweet Home

I live in an area of London, the name of which I am still not sure about. It actually lies on the border of Shepherd’s Bush, closer to East Acton/White City. I don’t know which side I am on. It takes 30-40 minutes for me to get to the college depending on the time of the day and the mood of trains.

Hobbies & Interests

Apart from my love for circuits and electronics (that has faded away progressively only to be overtaken my newer areas in the same field) I enjoy wasting time by watching movies and reading books of various subjects including history, science fiction and current affairs. I follow tennis and cricket as my favourite sports with football being the recent addition. I love photography but I haven’t been able to give it a lot of time after moving to London. I also take pleasure in shopping, cooking and sightseeing. I often curse my hectic life for devoiding me of these delights.

Why Do I Write Here?

I was chosen by someone as a Student Blogger to blab about my life at Imperial in particular and London in general. I’m still stupefied at my selection. I believe there were no other entries from my department which resulted in me being selected. At the time of writing and reviewing an article for selection I firmly believed I stood no chance with my prosaic style of writing.

Purpose Of This Blog

This blog is supposed to be a textual version of my life at Imperial in particular and London in general. I believe it will be an agglomeration of dull posts focusing on my life as a student at Imperial College, settling in London and my ramblings about anything that forms a part of me during this period. I intend to do some detailed posts about my first impressions of Imperial College and London for the benefit of prospective and international students. I can be directly contacted for any specific enquiries.
