About

I hate writing about myself. Perhaps it’s because I don’t like to face realities, or it’s that I defy description, thus rendering the whole enterprise pointless. Possibly not the latter, but who knows? Anyway, here’s a quick rundown:

I’m David. Some people call me Dave too. I don’t know which I prefer because I’m a chronically indecisive person. Anyway, whatever you want to call me, I’m a MSc student on the Science Communication course. I won’t bore you with the specifics, but if you want to know about what we do, take a look here. I’m on this MSc in a bid to find something interesting and relevant to do with my genuinely fascinating but not very practical BSc in History, Philosophy and Social Studies of Science from UCL. Before UCL, I did a brief stint at Cambridge doing a BSc in Natural Science. Frankly, it was a nightmare, so I decided to move to UCL which is a decision that I’ve never regretted for a second. Maybe I’ll cover this one day in the blog, but I don’t reckon the sacrifices you have to make for the Oxbridge name aren’t worth it, but if you want to know more, as I think this is important, email me.

Less specifically, I’m a relatively sporty person. I used to do a lot of rowing, both at Cambridge and at School, but that faded when I got to London. Now I’m a bit of a sporting nomad, flitting from one to another, but I seem to be homing in on cycling. It’s fun, and has the convenient side-effect of getting me to and from college for free. Otherwise, I’m an extremely keen, but not very able photographer. If you’re at all interesting in sharing in my mediocrity, and will tolerate a little self-publicity, take a look at my pbase page. If you want, you can even leave some comments as it makes me feel happy, and appreciated. Perhaps, from time to time, I’ll even decorate this blogs with a few photos, if you’re lucky.

Anyway, home is Dorset, although I was born and brought up in Scotland - Perthshire to be more accurate. I like to go back to the country whenever I get the chance. Although I like living in London, I hate it at the same time, and so it’s great to get a break from it for a while!

Otherwise, here’s a few quick facts: I love bacon, marmite and pizza. But not together. That would be wrong. My favorite sweets are Strawberry Millions. I hate pretentious music journalism - since when was “flexible ambition” an acceptable way to describe an album - anything that gets taken too seriously, and equally those that do so. Oh, and my first dog was called Pippa.

I think that’ll do for now. If there’s anything you want to know, or you just want to talk to someone, either send me an email or leave me a comment. I like those.

So, happy reading!

David (or Dave)
