Welcome to the Infrasense Laboratory
@ Imperial College London
Infrasense: Background
Advances in sensing, communication and information technology are becoming cheaper,
practically feasible and more ubiquitous, and when applied to civil engineering problems
these technologies enable innovative research and provide opportunities for end-to-end
industrial solutions. In particular, wireless, low power, smart sensor nodes are being
developed that are capable of sampling real-world phenomena and filtering, sharing and
combining readings from a variety of sensors. We beleive that the temporal and spatial density of the acquired data will provide a major paradigm shift in the way engineers observe, model and control complex infrastructure systems
Our Research Goals
Bridge recent developments in wireless sensor networks (WSN) and embedded devices with advances in hydraulic and water quality modelling which enables the integration of turn-key solutions for monitoring large scale water supply and sewer systems
The integration of sensing technologies with application domain expertise and research in intricate numercial challenges provides unique opportunities for solving critical infrastructure problems. The mix-and-match monitoring solutions we have been developing can successfully serve as an underpinning platform for addressing challenging modelling problems in environmental engineering, structural health monitoring and transport
