From fast cars to slow flows over bluff bodies

Translating knowledge on separated fluid mechanics

We would like to express our gratitude to you for all of your efforts in making the workshop a success. We very much hope you enjoyed the two days as much as we did and look forward to seeing you all again soon.

The workshop

Large scale separated flows dominate many fluid dynamics problems; from flows past offshore super-structures and pipelines to arterial flows. Whether the field of application be race vehicle aerodynamics, bridge deck design or offshore oil recovery the loading and dynamics caused by separated flows must be carefully considered. Despite the diversity of application and problem scale there exists much overlap between the study and application of fluid dynamics in this ostensibly disparate array of scientific areas and industries; the common thread that binds them together being low speed separated fluid dynamics.

The workshop will bring together leading separated flow specialists from across a broad range of industries and academic sectors to enthuse the research community and to promote discussion leading to the formation of new bridges and collaborations that translate the traditional sectoral divisions. It will include seventeen plenary talks divided across four main session topics: Offshore fluid mechanics, Bluff body flows, Aerodynamics and Environmental flows, and Streamlined car aerodynamics. Additionally there will a poster competition to which the postgraduate research community are encouraged to submit their entries.

A workshop banquet will be held to acknowledge the numerous research contributions made by Professors Peter Bearman and Mike Graham to the field of low speed separated fluid mechanics.

We hope to see you in London
