David J. Hand (MA, MSc, PhD,
C.Stat, HonFIA, FBA), Professor of Statistics at
- Head of the Statistics Section, Department of Mathematics
- Programme Leader: Mathematics in Banking and Finance, Institute for Mathematical Science
- Programme Leader: Classification Programme, Institute for Mathematical Science
I have broad research interests, including multivariate statistics, classification methods, pattern detection, the interface between statistics and computing, and the foundations of statistics. I have particular interests in applications in medicine, psychology, and finance. I have wide-ranging consultancy experience to organisations ranging from banks, through pharmaceutical companies, to governments.
I am Chair of the Statistical Methods in Retail
Financial Services Research Group in the Mathematics Department, leader of
the Mathematics
in Banking and Finance Programme of the Institute
for Mathematical Sciences. and Director of the Quantitative
Financial Risk Management Centre at

H Measure
Code for this is available from R code for H measure of classification performance
I have made two amendments to this program:
1) The horizontal axis for the ROC curve was mislabelled as 1-F1. I have corrected this to read F1.
2) The original specified that the data were to be read in from a txt file which had a certain structure. It has become apparent that this is confusing, since people often want to feed in data which has been output from another program. I have therefore modified the code so that the data are given in a matrix, leaving it to the user to decide how best to input their data into that matrix.
